140th anniversary of the birthday of Barpy Alykulov commemorated at the International Kyrgyz Uzbek University
The International Organisation of Turkic Culture TURKSOY further commemorates the 140th anniversary of the birthday of the great Kyrgyz poet Barpy Alykulov. On April 19th, the International Kyrgyz-Uzbek University hosted an international round table dedicated to the late poet and philosopher Barpy Alykulov.
Welcoming speeches of the event were delivered by the Rector of the University, Professor Abdylbaet Mammadykov and the representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to TURKSOY, Professor Kanat Mambetaliev.
Mr. Mambetaliev who drew attention to the general characteristics of the poet's art, which combines the themes of lyricism, national feelings and originality with his improvisation skills also stressed that the national stance reflected in Barpy Alykulov's poems is especially remarkable in terms of the period he lived in, and stated that although the poet lost his eyesight, his creativity continued to develop and he preserved his national stance in his art until the end of his life.
In his speech, Mr. Mambetaliev conveyed the greetings of TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev and reminded of the fact that thanks to the special efforts of Secretary General Sultan Raev a decision was made at the meeting of the Permanent Council of TURKSOY to support the studies on the life and work of Barpy Alikulov.
The Round Table meeting also featured an exhibition of books and works of scholars of the Kyrgyz-Uzbek University along with information on the achievements of the University and a student concert featuring works by Barpy Alykulov.
On behalf of the Secretariat General of TURKSOY Mr. Mambetaliev handed over the 30th anniversary medal of TURKSOY to Prof. Dr. Batyrali Syddyqov, Prof. Dr. T. Isakov and Assoc. Prof. Dr. M. Temirov in recognition of their contribution to the Turkic World.
